Summer!

Fiery sun beaming
down on your face.

Warm breeze brushing
against your skin.

Cold water splashing
your skin to make it wet.

Bees buzzing everywhere
around you, pollinating.

Barbeques everywhere
around the neighborhood.

Tank tops to short shorts.
Bathing suits to beach towels.

Summer is to the hot sun
to the cool  pool water.

My D.A.R.E Report

dare-logo (1)Making healthy choices for myself is important. If someone were to offer me a drug I learned to build up enough courage to say no. If I build up enough courage to make the right choice and say no. I could be an inspiration to someone who wants to quit or is in a tough spot.

In D.A.R.E., I learned how to get rid of a bully by trying different techniques. For example, I could stand up to the bully, I could try to avoid the bully, or I could get an adult involved. Sometimes these techniques don’t work. Another way is to just move schools or get homeschooled. Which could help me feel safe and relaxed.

D.A.R.E. is a class that taught me to stay away from drugs. One type of drug is tobacco. Tobacco has nicotine in it which is an addictive ingredient in tobacco products. Tobacco can cause lung or liver cancer, heart disease, wrinkles, stained yellow teeth, mouth cancer and many more affects to the body. Cigarettes is one product of tobacco. Cigarettes have about 7,000 chemicals in them. I actually lost my grandmother to lung cancer when I was about 7.

D.A.R.E gave me a chance to learn how to make the right choices in life. It gave me information about drugs and how they can affect me. It gave me tips on how to deal with a bully. Also D.A.R.E. gave me a chance to make healthier choices. I pledge to stay away from drugs and alcohol. I have learned that it is bad for my body and I want to make healthy choices in life.

The Recital

Trembling with
nervousness
of getting up
on stage.

Legs were
shaking,
feeling
tense.

Rushing to the
stage, wishing
it could all be
over already.

Nothing was calming
me on stage
until the music
was all I heard.

Singing to the beat
of the music
was a breathtaking
experience.

Music stopped.
The crowd was cheering,
strolling
off stage
feeling proud.

A Must Read Book!

selection cvrI think a must read book for 6th grade girls is The Selection by Kiera Cass. The book does have a series which the series is amazing! I don’t think boys would like the series because the series has romance, and drama but I might be wrong. The first book is about how the main character America is forced to enter into a contest based on beauty. The contest is for the Prince to pick a girl that he thinks should be his wife.

America didn’t want to enter into the contest because she already had a lover. Americas lover was Aspen. Aspen talked America into entering into the contest because where America lives everyone is poor. Aspen wanted America to enter so she could help him and his family and her own family get money. America thought Aspen was going to propose to her, but instead Aspen ended their relationship. America was devastated but she realized their so called “relationship” was a big joke. America was just there to feed Aspen when he didn’t eat at all. Their so called “relationship” was pretty much a kiss and forget.

In the book The Selection, the contest is all about a girls beauty. The Prince of course is judging the girls on their beauty. So if he sends a girl home the girl will feel bad about herself. America doesn’t even want to be in the contest but she wants to help her family. When America goes to the contest she stays in the palace. The palace will provide food, shelter and everything the girls need. Their are 35 girls in the contest including America.

Didn’t I say there was drama in the book? Yes I did say there was drama in the book. America just got to the palace and a lot of girls were giving her dirty looks. She had already made a bunch of enemies and only made 2 friends out of all 34 girls. A group of girls were laughing at America and pointing at her worn out red shoes but America didn’t care. She only cared that she would be kicked out of the contest and sent back to her home where she belongs.

My favorite book of all time this year is The Selection. The book has drama, a little mystery, and romance. The book is more of a girls book because guys don’t really care about romance. The Selection is my favorite book because I’m really in to drama and romance books. The drama in the book is really exciting and thrilling so when America has a fight with the Prince they fight about how the contest is really dumb, and she doesn’t get kicked out of the contest which America is confused about?. The Selection also has a little mystery so the 35 girls in the contest don’t know who the prince will pick to be his wife? The romance of the book is cute because America has a secret outing with her old boyfriend Aspen. America brought Aspen left over food because Aspen doesn’t really eat anything, all he does is work all day everyday. So they have a cute date in a tree house in Americas backyard.

The book The Selection I think is a really good book. I think girls would love this book I mean what girl doesn’t love drama and romance? It’s got a little mystery which I think makes the book more exciting. This is all the reasons why I think The Selection is my favorite book and why I think 6th grade girls should read it.

Schools Shouldn’t Do Year-Round Schooling!

50be93e10d18c.imageI don’t think that schools should do year-round schooling. Parents can find it hard to squeeze in family vacations. For working parents, they may find it hard to find people to take care of their children while they’re at work. It’s also difficult for a sports team to attend competitions because of the schedule for year-round schooling.

Other reasons why schools shouldn’t do year round schooling is students that attend school year-round lose their freedom from school in the summer. The kids summer break is very short and isn’t long enough for kids to get over the beaten up feeling from last year. People complain that students on year-round schedules, particularly multi-track students, miss out on spending time with their friends and come to school as a result.

Some people might say that year-round schooling gives children more education. Yes that is true but to enroll 635 kids in year-round schooling costs $311,725 dollars. That is a lot of money to spend. Year-round schooling is wrong because kids need freedom and need to have more time to spend with families and need time to just be a kid.

Another reason schools shouldn’t do year-round schooling is it gets really hot in the summer. The school buildings of the 19th century were not air-conditioned. Heat during the summer months would often become unbearable. Doctors thought kids would need a break in the summer. This idea is not given much medical credit these days, but Gold said back in the 19th century it was believed unusual for students to be in a classroom year-round.

I think schools shouldn’t not do year-round schooling because according to the superintendent of a school that does year-round schooling, it costs $128,000 dollars more just in busing payments to keep the schools under the year-round calendar. Another reason is that summer gives teachers time to train and get ready for next year so the teachers are ready to teach the kids new stuff next year. In conclusion, these are the examples on why I think schools shouldn’t do year-round schooling.

Should Cigarette Smoking be Banned?

partsofcigaretteCigarette smoking should be banned! Smoking cigarettes are expensive. People who smoke cigarettes can spend as much as $2,500 a year on cigarettes. Researchers say that smokers think that cigarettes help them relax and releases stress. Cigarettes have 7000 chemicals in them. Cigarettes are a health hazard for smokers and non – smokers.

Researchers say that there is nicotine in cigarettes and it is addictive and thats why smokers have a hard time quitting. Smoking cigarettes can damage the lungs, the heart, and causes other diseases. About 400,000 Americans die each year from diseases caused by cigarette smoking. The biggest threats are lung cancer, other smoking related cancer and heart disease.

Smoking cigarettes causes more deaths than illegal drug use, alcohol abuse, motor vehicle injuries, suicides, and murders. Non-smokers can even get diseases when they are around cigarette smoke. Smoking also affects pregnancy and newborn children.

Your lungs can be badly affected by smoking. Coughs, colds, wheezing and asthma are just starting it. Smoking causes diseases such as pneumonia, emphysema and lung cancer. Smoking causes 84% of deaths from lung cancer and 83% of deaths from obstructive lung disease, and bronchitis.

There are a lot of effects of cigarette smoking. Including stained teeth, smelly hair, wrinkled skin, heart disease, yellow fingers, coughing, poor vision, mood change, and anxiety. Cigarette smoking, now and in the past, has been a custom and addiction primarily of men, leaving women and children as the majority of the world’s passive smokers. In 2004, second-hand smoking caused about 600,000 deaths. 28% were children who died. Of the 430,000 adult deaths, about 64% were women. A pack of cigarettes in Ohio last year was $5.67. This year the price raised to $5.88. The prices of a pack of cigarettes is only going to increase more each year. Thats why I think cigarettes should be banned.

Working Together Helps Everyone Succeed!

working-together-quotes-4

Today I’m going to talk about working together. Everyone has to work with everyone in a team and include everyone. If they all don’t work together the team doesn’t work.

In the article the people talk about how everybody has a different personality. For example, there are nice people, lazy people, outgoing people, and hard working people. The people say that everyone has to find the best position in a team. They say when everyone works together everyone can achieve more. Working together is important. They say to work with someone they wouldn’t goof off with or fight with. When everyone has the right person to work with everyone can get the assignment or job done.

This is a quote written by Matt Cameron,

“No matter how much success we are having, we can’t continue working together if we can’t communicate.” ( Link at the bottom).

In the site they talk about how everyone has to focus on team building efforts and activities. If the team goals are clear and accepted by everyone, everyone might not commit to the goals their team wants to accomplish together. (Link at the bottom).

The site says that if their team wants to accomplish something, everyone has to share ideas and listen to eachother. Everyone has to trust each other, support each other, and respect each others differences. (Link at the bottom).

Here is a quote written by Bill Richardson.

Everyone cannot accomplish all that they need to do without working together.” (Link at the bottom).

The Best Class EVER!!!

252_Fitness_Pictures_November_26_2011_024The best class I have  ever attended is my gymnastics class. I started gymnastics class this year in october. I like this class because we get to do cartwheels, back handsprings, round offs, barrel rolls, back walkovers, and if we say we can’t do something then we have to do 20 pushups. I think this is the best class ever because I like to learn to do different things. I like to be able to do things other people can’t.

The place I go for gymnastics is Charmion. It’s in Circleville. You can learn dance, gymnastics, and cheer. It’s fun and there is a lot of kids that go there so you’re never alone. They teach little kids and teenagers. The dance teacher that owns the building is Mrs.Hidey.

I go to gymnastics every monday at 7:00pm. I go there because I want to try out for cheer and I want to be able to make it in. There are about 30 girls that are in my class. My friend Shaylee Mckirgan is in the class with me. Shaylee and I take turns driving each other to gymnastics class. We both got to do a free class to see if we wanted to sign up.

One time in gymnastics class and I was all ready to do my back handspring. When I jumped up to do my back handspring Doug told me I did so good and that he wanted me to start round off back handsprings. I was so happy that he thought I was good at it.

Doug is my gymnastics coach and he is really funny. One time I was doing my round off back handspring and when I was doing my round off part I kicked Doug in the face. He just screamed ow and said “Watch where you swing that foot.”

I had the best day ever at my best class ever. I will never forget that day. It was so fun and madison the witch wasn’t there!! Madison always is bossing you around. She screams at you if your doing something she doesn’t like. Just because she’s older and she thinks she can boss me around.

I like the class except Madison is annoying. Over all, I love gymnastics class. It’s fun and we get to listen to music when we are doing stuff. I have my friends around me and get to do stuff I thought I never could.

Setting Of The Zombies!

cover-of-pride-and-prejudice-and-zombiesI have been reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith. This is the first scene in the book:

In my book I am writing about setting. The setting really controls what people can do and can not do outside. Zombies lurk around every corner. Elizabeth’s father doesn’t let her go outside alone.

As Mr.Darcy walked off, Elizabeth felt her blood turn cold. She had never in her life been so insulted. The warrior code demanded she avenge her honor. Elizabeth reached down to her ankle, taking care not to draw attention. There, her hand met the dagger concealed beneath her dress. She meant to follow this proud Mr.Darcy outside and open his throat.

But not soon enough she had grabbed the weapon than screams came from the assembly hall. Elizabeth immediately joined by the shattering glass windows. Zombies started coming in from the windows at a clumsy yet swift way. There clothing was ripped and had blood stains on them. Some of the zombies wore gowns that were  so untidy. Other zombies wore suits that were very filthy. The suits had dirt and dried blood on them.

The setting in my book controls what people do outside. There are zombies everywhere outside and it would be highly dangerous to be outside alone! Nobody goes outside at all unless it’s really important. If I were in this situation I would stay inside no matter what.

The zombies were slightly green and the zombies who were longer dead were grey and brittle. A few of the guests who were to near the windows, were feasted on at once. When Elizabeth stood up she saw Mrs.Long struggling to free herself from the two dreadful zombies. They had feasted on Mrs.Long’s neck and it sent showers of dark blood to shoot to the chandelier’s.

The zombies were very powerful to break through the windows. They were hungry for blood which is just terrifying. Elizabeth isn’t afraid to go outside because she is brave.

As people fled in every direction, Mr.Bennett’s voice cut through the screams. “Girls! Pentagon of Death!” The girls got in a circle there backs facing each other and Elizabeth and her other two sisters were striking the knives into zombies brains. From the corner of the ball, Mr.Darcy watched Elizabeth and her sisters strike the zombies one by one. He only knew one other woman who could strike a zombie with a dagger so skillfully as Elizabeth. By the time the girls reached the walls of the assembly hall, the last of the zombies lay still.

Some places aren’t even safe inside. I would say that the assembly hall needs to be built safer. People wouldn’t want to go there anymore if there was an attack and people got eaten. They need to make the assembly hall more safe and comforting.
